Reports state that breast cancer is the second most commonly found disease in women after skin cancer. In the year 2006, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) stated that as many as 191,410 were found with breast cancer and 40, 820 succumbed to the disease.

Though it falls in the deadly disease category, if one adopts a healthy life style, it can definitely help in curbing the chances of getting the disease. Many health practitioners say that the following should be followed regularly in order to prove beneficial, and reduce the risk to breast cancer.

* Intake of saturated or hydrogenated fats on daily basis should be cut down to a bare minimum per day.

* Fiber intake needs to be increased as part of the daily diet.

* Alcohol consumption should be kept to minimum or stopped completely!

* Eat fresh fruits and vegetables.

* Meditate and be at peace at all times.

* Exercise is one such thing that is a must for the body. For example, a brisk walk of of around 30 minutes can really help a lot.

* Kick that ‘butt’ – Quit smoking, before it is too late.

As part of the National Breast Awareness month, women are encouraged to go in for regular mammography screening, in addition to undergoing annual clinical breast exams, and also ensure that regular check-ups with the physician take place.
